Summary
Google has formally launched its new design for Android called Material Three Expressive which builds on the customizable features of Material You introduced in Android 12.
The new features, which will be available in an update to the Android 16 beta later in the month, include springy animations, revamped fonts and adjustable colour schemes.
The launch also includes Live Updates, a feature similar to Apple’s Live Activities which shows time sensitive notifications in a persistent bar.
Google claims that the new features are designed to be attention grabbing for young people, with the company claiming that up to 87% of 18 to 24 year olds prefer expressive design.
However, the author doubts that the eye catching new design will be enough to convince many young iPhone users to switch to Android.
