Apple is placing warnings on EU apps that don’t use App Store payments

Summary
European regulators have told Apple it has to tone down anti- competiton practices, including its use of “scare sheets” to put users off installing apps from the store that do not use Apple’s payment systems, such as Instacar.
This comes as Apple is facing mounting pressure to allow links from apps to third-party payment channels, and not simply its own.
Recently, it was reported that Apple was planning to allow such links, but only to those with a set of “exemption criteria” which wasdesigned to be very difficult to achieve.
Now it appears that Apple will have to allow such links regardless, and remove the current system that leads to a three-step warning message telling users not to proceed.
Apps that use Apple’s payment systems benefit from features such as purchase history, Family Sharing, and unified subscription management.
