Discord might use AI to help you catch up on conversations

Discord has become a vital space for gaming communities online, and the company is looking for ways to improve knowledge sharing in its platform.
Discord’s SVP of product, Peter Sellis, has stated that large language models (LLMs) could help the platform summarise conversations and improve their usability, making them more accessible and potentially syndicated to the web.
However, he also acknowledged that any solution that makes information more accessible outside of Discord would create more work for server moderators and admins, and so the company was sensitive to this when introducing new features.
Discord is also seeking to balance the needs of small, intimate servers, which make up 90% of all activity on the platform, with the requirements of much larger community servers.
The largest Discord server is currently Midjourney, a company which offers text-to-AI image generation services.
Sellis sees this trend towards Midjourney’s use of Discord as an opportunity to increase the platform’s focus on communities and multiplayer interactions.
