Microsoft has made available a new update for its Windows Notepad app, adding text formatting to the lightweight software for the first time.
As well as introducing bold and italic styling, the update includes hyperlink support and Markdown support for users who prefer to work directly with the lightweight markup language.
The addition of text formatting means there is now a formatting toolbar at the top of the app, as well as existing File, Edit, and View options.
The update is currently only available for Canary and Dev Channel testers on Windows 11, but a broader rollout is expected in the future.
The new features were introduced one week after Microsoft began testing a tool within Notepad that uses AI to generate text content.
