Alexa Plus’ AI upgrades cost $19.99, but it’s all free with Prime

Amazon has announced a new upgraded version of its popular smart assistant Alexa, which will offer new features such as easier, more natural conversations with the assistant, and the ability to find and purchase products and services on the user’s behalf, such as concert tickets or an Uber.
The new Alexa Plus will begin rolling out in the US in late March 2025, with subscriptions starting at $19.99/month, although it will be free for Prime users.
As most of the new features will be reliant on Amazon’s other services, such as Amazon Music and Prime Video, the company is hoping to incentivise users to sign up for a Prime membership alongside Alexa Plus.
There was no new hardware announced at the event, but the company has confirmed that the new assistant will be backwards-compatible with ‘almost every’ Alexa device released to date.
Features such as touchscreen interfaces will be prioritised for the new assistant, with Echo Show 8, 10, 15 and 21 models set to be fitted as standard.
