Delta Air Lines bets on ‘blended-wing’ flight to reduce emissions

Summary
Delta Air Lines will support start-up JetZero’s bid to develop a blended-wing aircraft that aims to cut fuel consumption, emissions and noise, as the airline steps up efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.
JetZero will join Delta’s Sustainable Skies Lab, an incubator which provides access to airline engineering expertise, and will target testing of the demonstrator aircraft in 2027.
JetZero, based at Long Beach Airport, was founded in 2021 with the goal of creating a next-generation sustainable aircraft for zero-emission aviation.
The airline’s support for the project complements a $235m US Air Force grant awarded last year for the development of a demonstrator aircraft that validates the blended-wing design.
