Summary
YouTube is expanding its $7.99 YouTube Premium Lite service to the US, having initially launched the discounted ad-free tier in Thailand, Germany and Australia.
While the lighter offering does not include offline downloads or background playback, users will gain access to most ad-free videos apart from music content.
It is worth noting that users in the pilot countries will still encounter non-interruptive ads when browsing and searching, in addition to video ads attached to music and shorts.
The 125 million global subscribers to YouTube Premium do not include those on free trials.
YouTube has not yet bundled YouTube TV with its premium services, a package which is expected to launch at a later date.
