Now Google Maps is starting to use Android 16’s live update notifications

Summary
Google Maps is using Android 16’s Live Updates feature which shows the time until a user’s next turn and estimated time to arrival on the status bar of the device.
The Live Updates feature was introduced in Android 16’s first beta release and is similar to Live Activities on iOS.
It allows users to see real-time notifications on the lock screen and the Dynamic Island.
Beta version 2.1 still does not have complete support and notifications are still collapsed on the always-on display, however, Google has time to fix this ahead of the platform’s expected June launch.
