The US Department of Justice’s (DOJ) revised proposal would see Google broken up and made to sell off its Google Chrome browser and potentially its Android operating system.
The proposal has been made in response to Judge Amit Mehta’s finding that Google is a monopolist.
The DOJ is calling for the breakup in order to increase competition in the marketplace and give consumers more choice.
Google has suggested its own remedy to the anti-trust issue, which doesn’t involve breaking up the company, instead it proposes the court places restrictions on its business deals.
Both proposals will be debated in April at a hearing.
