Netflix’s video gaming division has been through a period of transition during the past year, with several senior executives coming and going, and a change in strategy.
The company began offering a small number of its own games to subscribers in 2019, but now it wants to expand this to include much more varied and complex titles, such as the recent Assassin’s Creed and Halo.
It has also been testing the ability to run games through its cloud platform, directly to TVs and web browsers, which could widen its appeal to non-mobile gamers.
The streaming giant believes its unique position in the entertainment industry could give it an edge over traditional gaming companies, although so far gaming remains a very small part of its overall business.
In the latest development, Netflix has hired former EA and Facebook executive Alain Tascan to replace its departing gaming chief.
