Google’s Gemini AI is really good at watermark removal

Summary
Google’s experimental Gemini 2.0 Flash AI model is proving controversial after users discovered its native image generation feature allows it to easily remove watermarks from photos.
TechCrunch reports that it is more effective than other watermark-removing tools, even handling more complex stamps such as those from Getty Images.
It then adds its own SynthID mark, which could be removed with another AI tool.
Additionally, users found that the model could insert recognisable pictures of real people into images, which is not possible using the full version of Gemini.
Although the features are only available through AI Studio to developers at present, Google has yet to respond to enquiries regarding potential abuse and whether it will introduce protections.
