Europe is trying to get non-Apple smartwatches to work better with iPhones

Summary
The European Commission’s recently passed Digital Markets Act (DMA) has been used to instruct Apple to improve the interoperability of its iPhone devices with third-party accessories.
The EU regulator has told the tech giant it must give developers and manufacturers greater access to core features, allowing products such as wireless headphones and smartwatches to more easily sync with iPhones.
The second ruling requires Apple to make its approval process for new apps and accessories more transparent, and to provide developers with technical documentation to help them make their products compatible with Apple’s ecosystem.
While Apple is yet to respond to the ruling, EU executive vice president Teresa Ribera said the decisions “are simply implementing the law, and providing regulatory certainty,” adding that the move will lead to better consumer choice.
