Summary
Protesters are planning what it is calling its “biggest day of action” on 29 March with demonstrations at 500 Tesla showrooms around the world.
The movement, called Tesla Takedown, began in February and has broadened to include hundreds of locations that are opposing CEO Elon Musk’s dismantling of the US federal government.
Against this backdrop there has been a surge in arson, vandalism and violence against Tesla locations, with some blaming the company for enabling the violence.
Trump has termed the violence and unrest as domestic terrorism, promising that activists would face severe consequences.
For its part, the protest group is keeping its focus on Musk and aiming to harm the company’s stock performance.
Since the beginning of the year Tesla’s stock value has dropped by almost 40%, due to poor sales and increased competition, both domestically and overseas.
