Chinese tech company Huawei has unveiled a new flip phone that opens sideways to create a wider device with a tablet-like aspect ratio.
Known as the Pura X, it is Huawei’s first phone not to support Android apps, instead featuring the company’s own HarmonyOS Next operating system and in-house AI assistant, Harmony Intelligence.
While Huawei has previously created smartphones that competed with market leaders Samsung and Apple, the new release is a sign it is now focusing on hardware innovation to differentiate itself from the competition.
It has already launched a folding phone and a phone with a detachable screen that can be used as a laptop, and now offers a new take on the flip phone with the Pura X.
With Android and Apple expected to launch new flip phones this year, Huawei is looking to lead the way in flipping and folding phone innovation.
