A Washington DC bar that was popular with Republican staffers is set to close and be replaced with a venue that only accepts cryptocurrency payments, reportedly the Pubkey bar.
Pubkey already runs a branch in New York’s Greenwich Village that only accepts crypto, and owner Thomas Pacchia has now confirmed that he plans to open a DC location in the coming months, although the address remains secret.
The bar’s opening reflects the growing influence of the crypto sphere among lawmakers and the increased acceptance of digital currencies.
Donald Trump’s 2022 visit to the NY venue, where he bought burgers for the whole bar using bitcoin, helped to increase its profile and demonstrated the then-president’s support for the crypto community.
