Summary
US telecommunications companies Comcast and Charter have begun offering access to satellite messaging on their mobile services, in collaboration with network provider Verizon and Skylo.
The emergency satellite messaging service is currently only available on Samsung Galaxy S25 and Google Pixel 9 devices, but customers will be able to send SMS text messages over satellite “in the coming weeks”.
The launch follows on from an earlier partnership between Skylo and Google to offer satellite connectivity on the Pixel 9.
It is the latest in a series of moves by mobile companies to offer satellite capability in the US, with Verizon partnering with Starlink and T-Mobile, and AT&T working with AST SpaceMobile.
