Summary
Apple has announced that it is to bring higher fidelity audio to its AirPods Max headphones, with the addition of lossless audio support, something the previous edition lacked, despite having a Lightning connector.
The new update will enable users to experience 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio, preserving the integrity of the original recording.
The move sees Apple joining other headphone makers, including Sennheiser and Sony, in offering higher fidelity audio.
The new firmware update, due in April, will also bring ultra low latency to the AirPods Max, making them more suitable for use in music production, gaming and live streaming.
The update will be released alongside iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4, and will also include a new USB-C to 3.5mm audio cable, selling for $39.
