Alleged Snowflake hacker agrees to be extradited to the US

Connor Moucka has reached an agreement to be extradited from Canada to the US to stand trial for breaches of data held in Snowflake’s cloud storage on behalf of 165 companies including giants like AT&T and Ticketmaster.
Moucka faces 20 charges under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and is believed to have amassed $2.5m in ransom from victims of the breaches.
Last year it was reported that the data of 560m users was found being sold on the dark web, after being removed from the same cloud storage service.
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has warned that the number of cyber-breaches is increasing, as hackers take advantage of coronavirus-related developments to trick employees at target organisations to reveal sensitive information.
It is estimated that in the first three months of this year, there were nearly triple the number of cyber offences against American businesses compared to the same period last year.
