Waze is dropping Google Assistant on iPhone after leaving it broken for ‘over a year’

Waze is to drop Google Assistant on its iOS app, and will replace it with an “enhanced voice integration solution,” which is believed to be the chatbot Gemini, following a difficult year of integration which has seen many users experience voice command issues.
The decision will see Google Assistant continue only on Android devices, but for how much longer, following Google’s recent announcement that it plans to transition users from Assistant to Gemini and remove the app from mobile app stores.
Waze is already testing conversational incident reporting with Gemini.
The company said in its update that it “sincerely apologises for the prolonged inconvenience,” and that rather than “patching” the problematic Google Assistant feature, it decided to phase it out entirely on iOS from tomorrow.
