Microsoft has announced that it is developing a way to improve the loading times of its Office apps, starting with Word in May.
The planned improvement will entail the creation of a new scheduled task which will run silently upon PC bootup to ensure that Word and subsequent Office apps open rapidly.
This optimisation will only be available to PCs with a minimum of 8GB of RAM and 5GB of disk space, and will not be enabled if the Energy Saver mode is switched on.
Disabling this new feature will be possible from within the Word app, or the scheduled task can be deleted, but Microsoft warns that this will simply be recreated when the Office installer applies an update.
This new method of swiftly opening apps is not one often used by other developers, who tend to use the regular startup section of Windows for this purpose.
