Employees of ZeniMax, owned by Microsoft, have voted to authorise a strike in a dispute over pay and the retention of contract workers.
The workers, represented by the Communications Workers of America union, hope to pressure Microsoft into negotiation a fair contract for QA workers.
While Microsoft has agreed tentative agreements on a range of topics, it will not comment on reports that contractors have been paid minimal wages with no benefits.
The vote comes as other technology companies, such as Google, Amazon and Apple, face industrial action over pay and conditions.
Microsoft is also facing scrutiny after confirming it laid off around 1,000 workers in the same week it announced its $69 billion deal to purchase Activision.
