The general consensus of whether a smartphone should have loads of or minimal features is increasingly leaning towards the latter group, with recent devices such as the Light Phone 3 targeting this demographic.
In a recent episode of The Vergecast, features that smartphones should have included easy accessibility to Nearby Restaurants, Real-Time Translation, a Calculator, and Evan Williams’ suggestion of being able to send your location to a friend with one click, which is set to be available on iOS 15.
On the other side of the spectrum, features that surprised the panel in being harder to live without than expected included ride-hailing services, language translation, and being able to edit Microsoft Office Documents.
They also discussed which platforms or features might be bad enough to outright remove, with Snapchat, TikTok, and Facebook all being potential candidates.
