Summary

  • Microsoft has updated its AI assistant, Copilot, with a range of new features in an attempt to keep up with competitors such as ChatGPT andClaude.
  • As well as supporting memory, personalisation and web-based actions, Copilot can now also undertake deep research, generate podcasts and carry out camera and screen analysis.
  • Microsoft has said that users will be able to choose what information they want Copilot to remember, or opt out entirely, and in the future the company plans to enable users to give Copilot a personalised appearance, including the much-requested option of bringing back Clippy.
  • The new actions feature allows the AI to carry out tasks using a web browser, which Microsoft suggests could include booking tickets, reserving restaurants and making purchases.
  • Copilot Vision expands to Windows and mobile apps, enabling the AI to see what’s on a user’s screen across other apps and files, and on iOS and Android it can discuss anything visible on the phone camera or in the camera roll.
  • The new deep research feature allows Copilot to analyse large numbers of documents or online sources, and integrate with Bing to deliver AI-powered search results.
