YouTube is supporting the ‘No Fakes Act’ targeting unauthorized AI replicas

Summary
Senators Chris Coons and Marsha Blackburn are pushing for their ‘No Fakes Act’ to be passed, legislation that aims to stop deepfake makers from using AI to replicate a person’s image, voice or name without their consent.
YouTube is the latest company to back the bill, joining SAG-AFTRA and the Recording Industry Association, saying it offers a balanced approach to protecting users while still fostering innovation.
However, the bill has previously been criticised for being too broad by civil liberties groups including the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
The bill would place the onus on individuals to inform platforms should they become aware of an AI-generated replica.
YouTube is also supporting the Take It Down Act, which aims to criminalise the publication of non-consensual intimate images, including those generated by AI.
