Summary
DoorDash has partnered with robot maker Coco to expand its fleet of automated food deliverers in the US, with trials currently taking place in Chicago and Los Angeles.
Harrison Shih, senior director of DoorDash Labs, said the partnership formed part of the company’s ambition to become a “multi-modal” platform, with other delivery methods including drones.
Coco’s robots have already been working with Uber Eats in LA, as well as other robot makers such as Cartken in Japan and Avride in Jersey City.
However, companies utilising robotic delivery options have encountered challenges, with vandalism and theft commonplace.
Serve Robotics, which also works with Uber, has devoted teams to monitor the robots and assist them if they get stuck.
