Figma tells AI startup to stop using the term ‘Dev Mode’

Summary
Figma has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Swedish start-up Loveable over the naming of one of its features, Dev Mode.
Figma successfully trademarked the term Dev Mode with the US Patent and Trademark Office in November 2023.
The letter from Figma stated that the term had been extensively used in connection with its own software and that it required Lovable to cease all use of the term in connection with its products.
Both companies use the term to describe a feature that helps bridge the gap between design and development.
However, Figma’s Dev Mode is designed to make design files easier to convert into code, while Loveable’s Dev Mode allows users to preview and edit their project code without connecting to GitHub.
Following Adobe’s failed $20bn acquisition of Figma in December, the collaboration platform announced yesterday that it is now seeking to go public.
