Bluesky is adding blue checks for ‘authentic and notable’ accounts

Summary
Social network Bluesky has rolled out its own verification badges for what it calls ‘authentic and notable accounts’
For now, the platform will proactively verify these accounts but plans to accept requests in future
Accounts will be granted a blue checkmark in a circle, next to their name, and organisations given ‘Trusted Verifier’ status will be denoted by a checkmark in a scalloped circle.
This builds on an existing system that lets users verify themselves via domain, but the new system makes it easier for journalists and creators to get verified and should help combat impersonators.
Bluesky experienced a surge in growth and a rise in impersonators last year.
The new system allows journalists and creators to be verified without having to link to an organisational domain they may not have access to.
