Summary

  • Nvidia’s GPU drivers have experienced a number of issues since the company launched its RTX 50-series cards in January, including black screens, games crashes and stability problems for both new and existing graphics cards.
  • Because rolling back to an earlier driver version repairs the problems, Nvidia has issued a series of fixes, however these have inadvertently caused issues with GPU monitoring utilities not reporting correct GPU temperatures, necessitating the release of a hotfix driver.
  • While this addresses some pressing issues, gamers are still reporting a number of issues with games using G-Sync, and Nvidia is tracking 15 open issues with its most recent driver that will hopefully be fixed in a later release.
  • This continues to be a turbulent launch for Nvidia, with power cables melting, some GPUs missing render units and difficulties in obtaining cards at retail prices.
