OpenAI tells judge it would buy Chrome from Google

Summary
Nick Turley, OpenAI’s head of product, has testified that the company would be interested in purchasing Chrome if Google were forced to sell the browser.
This coincides with the US Department of Justice’s proposal to break up Google’s browser monopoly as part of an antitrust lawsuit, the remedies phase of which began on Monday.
Turley also testified that OpenAI had approached Google about a potential partnership that would enable ChatGPT to use Google’s search technology, but that the search giant had declined.
OpenAI is currently forced to use Bing to fulfil 80% of its search queries, but Turley stated that the company has had “significant quality issues” with Bing provider Microsoft.
OpenAI is simultaneously working to develop its own search index, a process which Turley estimated would take many years to complete.
