Summary
An AI executive from NYC-based startup Perplexity has said the company would be interested in buying Google Chrome, should the browser be forced to spin out from its parent company as part of an antitrust rulings against Google.
Perplexity CBO Dmitry Shevelenko made the surprise revelation during testimony at a trial about resolving Google’s search monopoly.
During the trial Shevelenko also aired grievances about the difficulties smaller rivals face when attempting to make deals with phone makers to be installed as the default search engine.
Perplexity is also chasing a bid to acquire TikTok, which is facing an extended ban in the US over national security concerns relating to its Chinese parent firm ByteDance.
However, the executive declined to testify voluntarily, stating he was fearful of retribution from Google.
