CEO of Alphabet and Google, Sundar Pichai, has announced that Google’s AI Overviews, first launched in 2025, now have 1.5 billion users per month.
Despite some awkward early suggestions, the tool has been expanded with updates, including Officially, the inclusion of ads, to compete with AI search tools such as ChatGPT Search and Perplexity.
Pichai also announced that Google would be expanding its rolling out the AI-based chatbot and assistant, Gemini, to replace Assistant on mobile devices over the next few months, and on tablets, cars, and devices that connect to phones, such as headphones and watches, later this year.
Its Q1 2025 earnings rose to $90.2 billion, a 12% increase on the previous year.
However, the company faces an antitrust case with the US Department of Justice, which could lead to it being broken up.
