Google is killing software support for early Nest Thermostats

Summary
Software updates for Google’s first two generations of Nest Learning Thermostats are being stopped because of “challenges in building for the diverse set of European heating systems”, meaning the company has no plans to release additional Nest devices on the continent.
The devices will still work, offering temperature control and scheduling directly on the device, but will not be controllable via smartphone or Google Assistant after October 25.
European customers will be offered a discount of 50% on Tado’s Smart Thermostat X as an alternative.
In the US and Canada, where the Nest’s 3rd and 4th generations will still be available, Google is offering discounts on the newer devices as an incentive for customers to upgrade.
