Summary
Adidas is set to launch its 3D printed Climacool shoes on May 2, making them available to the public.
Initially released in a limited capacity in September 2021, the shoes will now be offered at select Adidas stores in New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, as well as via the company’s mobile app, Confirmed platform.
The entire shoe is produced using additive manufacturing, a technique which allows for individual customisation.
The Continous Liquid Interface Production process used by Adidas to create the Climacool involves a 3D printer turning liquid polymer resin into a solid material using ultraviolet light.
This process enables the production of shoes with unique properties, such as Adidas’ 4DFWD running shoes, which feature a 3D printed midsole with a lattice structure.
Such techniques are also utilised by Adidas’ competitors, including New Balance and Nike.
