Summary
A power outage has been reported in Spain, as well as parts of Portugal and France, with homes, businesses and transport affected.
The Madrid Open tennis tournament has been interrupted due to the outage, whilst the city’s underground rail network has been evacuated.
Airport terminals and SEPE, the Spanish public employment service, have also been impacted, with airports running on backup generators.
In Portugal, the outage has halted traffic lights, the metro in Lisbon and Porto, and halted train services.
The power cut was caused by a problem in the European electricity grid, according to E-Redes, although Red Eléctrica, Spain’s national electricity system operator, is working with energy companies to restore power.
Power has now been restored in some areas, including parts of Spain and France.
