OpenAI and its new DeepSeek/Deep Research is getting a lot of column inches since its launch, but for those who want to test out a similar product there is Google’s Deep Research mode, part of its 1.5 Pro model and available on its Gemini chatbot via its Google One AI Premium plan.
It carries out extensive web research for queries and compiles them into well-constructed reports which can be exported to Google Docs with one click, and it costs just $20 per month, a tenth of the price of OpenAI.
It is not just straight AI churning out reports, but a “reasoning” AI that performs deep web research and creates watertight reports on everything from historical genocide to sleep requirements to the latest theories on UFO/UAP sightings.
Some examples of reports generated from queries are “genocide throughout history and whether or not Israel’s recent actions in Gaza qualify”, “gender expression throughout history and today”, “new materials research”, “making a new mass produced consumer product”, “economic boom and bust research”, “sleep research”, “unintended consequences of technologies and how they apply to AI”, and “UAP research”.
