Nintendo is to scrap its Gold Points scheme, which rewarded users with virtual currency to spend in the eShop, from 24 March.
No purchases made from that date will earn gold points, including those made with eShop gift cards.
Points earned before the 24 March deadline will remain valid for 12 months.
The company has not given a reason for the scheme’s discontinuation, but it may be a precursor to a new loyalty scheme linked to the rumoured Switch 2, for which game vouchers will not be valid.
Existing points can be spent on games or other items from Nintendo, its character business and theme parks.
