OpenInfer has received $8m in seed funding to develop an engine for artificial intelligence (AI) processing in edge applications.
The AI start-up was established by Behnam Bastani and Reza Nourai, who spent a decade working together on AI systems at Meta and Roblox.
OpenInfer aims to make AI inference possible on a wide array of devices without cloud APIs or hosted systems, with Bastani stating the company wants to be “agnostic to the types of devices at the edge”.
Currently, AI inference is frequently hampered by latency, privacy issues and inefficiency, problems the start-up aims to solve with its OpenInfer Engine.
In six months, the company has recruited a team of seven and it now aims to make AI more accessible and to ” seamlessly integrate AI into every surface ”, according to Bastani.
