Summary
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is set to release its Radeon RX 9000 series graphics chips on 6 March 2025, competing with Nvidia’s RTX 50 series graphics cards, which are due to ship soon after.
Frank Azor, VP of AMD’s gaming solutions, told VentureBeat that AMD will focus on producing graphics cards that are worth less than $1,000, as this is what the majority of gamers buy.
The RX 9070 Series will offer 38% faster gaming than AMD’s Radeon RX 6800 XT, and 26% faster than Nvidia’s RTX 3080, while the RX 9070 XT will be 51% faster than the RX 6900 XT, and 26% faster than the RTX 3090.
The new chips will use AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture, which offers an enhanced memory subsystem and improved scalar units, dynamic register allocation, and clock speeds.
Third-generation ray tracing accelerators can generate twice as many rays, while second-generation AI accelerators can generate eight times more Int8 with Sparsity.
