Acclaim Entertainment, the publisher behind titles such as Mortal Kombat and NBA Jam, is making a comeback as an indie games publisher.
Industry veteran Alex Josef, formerly of Graffiti Games, is serving as CEO of the new company.
The focus will be on “revitalizing its beloved portfolio of classic IP” as well as supporting indie developers, starting with three to four games per year.
With the significant experience of its management team and board in the entertainment sector, the revived Acclaim Entertainment aims to “nurture independent developers and drive long-term success”.
The company is remaining tight-lipped about its funding to date but expects to release its first game this year.
