Female founders in the U.S. VC ecosystem: the good and the bad | Pitchbook
1 min read
Summary
A new report has revealed that women founders and investors raised $38.8bn in US funding in 2024, a 27% increase from the previous year.
However, the number of transactions involving women founders fell by 13.1%.
Overall, female founders accounted for 25.1% of all deals in the US in 2024, just less than 19.9% of the total value of venture capital (VC) deals, and a lower percentage than the previous year.
When looking at the games industry, the figures are even more disappointing, with women founders accounting for just 0.11% of all game VC funding in 2024, down from 0.18% in 2023.
Despite this, PitchBook said gains were made by female founders in 2024, with later-stage companies and those operating in select software and healthcare subsectors seeing substantial funding momentum.
