Summary

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched Amazon GameLift Streams, which lets game developers deliver games via streaming from the cloud to players, on any device.
  • It requires only a web real-time communications-enabled HTML5 browser and no modifications to the game.
  • Chris Lee, general manager and head of immersive technology at AWS, said it would “unlock a huge amount of opportunity for developers to control their own destiny and experiment with their own distribution channels and find new ways to get their games into the hands of players”.
  • Jackbox Games, Bandai Namco Entertainment, Ludeo and Xsolla are among those using the service.
  • AWS also offers Amazon GameLift, a service used by the likes of Ubisoft, Zynga, WB Games and Meta, which has been tested to handle up to 100 million concurrent users.
