Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has unveiled its new Epyc Embedded 9005 Series processor, which it claims has been designed specifically for the “demanding requirements” of edge computing.
AMD has optimised the new chip for embedded markets, claiming it strikes a balance between computing potential and specific features catering to embedded application development, longevity and system resilience.
Powered by the firm’s Zen 5 architecture, the Epyc 9005 is geared towards networking, storage and industrial operations.
It offers core counts from between eight and 192 in a single socket, and features enhanced I/O connectivity and memory support.
The chip will be made available to early access customers this quarter, with full production starting in Q2 2025.
