OpenAI unveils Responses API, open source Agents SDK, letting developers build their own Deep Research and Operator

OpenAI has made a suite of AI building blocks available to developers to help them create new interactive web tools and services more efficiently.
The examples given were Deep Research which can scour the internet to develop richly researched, well organised and cited reports, and Operator, an AI agent that can use the web to book dinner reservations, order tickets, compile grocery lists and more.
The new offerings include a Responses API, built-in tools for web and file search, a computer use tool, and an open-source Agents SDK.
All are available to developers today, and usage is billed at OpenAI’s standard token and tool rates.
Olivier Godement, head of product for OpenAI’s platform, said “It’s hard to overstate how critical reasoning models are for enabling AI agents.
