Summary
CEO of Inworld AI, Kylan Gibbs, has said that the current AI ecosystem was not built with game developers in mind, and that prototypes often fail to translate into production-ready games.
Gibbs highlighted the real challenges his company has encountered in creating AI games and how they have gone about solving them, such as optimizing cloud costs and enhancing on-device AI.
He criticised the current cloud-dependent tools for being too expensive and highlighted the need for on-device inference.
Inworld AI has focused on solving these structural problems and is showcasing ways developers can overcome these barriers at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2025.
He also discussed the problems of unreliable cloud APIs and the fact that production-quality AI currently requires heavy and disruption rewrites.
Gibbs will speak at GDC on the topic of ‘Breaking Down AI’s Unsustainable Economics’ together with Jim Keller of Tenstorrent and other industry experts.
