Summary

  • Self-driving car developer Cruise, owned by General Motors (GM), has partnered with Nvidia to use the AI chipmaker’s technology to develop and deploy autonomous vehicles.
  • As part of the deal, Nvidia will supply its Drive hypervisors, which allow multiple vehicles systems to run on a single chip, to Cruise, providing an “order of magnitude increase in the complexity of testing” through allowing dozens of complex prototypes to be tested and validated in parallel.
  • Cruise will also use Nvidia’s Omniverse 3D design platform to create digital twins of its fleet of more than 100 self-driving Chevy Bolts.
  • “This will enable us to virtually test and validate thousands of hardware and software configurations, allowing us to safely and rapidly develop and deploy autonomous vehicles at scale,” said a Cruise spokesperson.
