At the end of its latest Direct, Nintendo revealed a new app for smartphones, called Nintendo Today, which acts as a daily digital calendar providing information on upcoming Nintendo events, including news on the hotly anticipated Switch 2 console, due to be launched at the end of the year.
This reinforces Nintendo’s control over its messaging, bypassing gaming media and journalists, who have previously been tasked with spreading the company’s messages to consumers.
However, the success of the app will depend on how widely used it becomes, especially since Nintendo’s previous attempt to launch a phone app specifically for voice chat during gaming proved a resounding failure.
The new app is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
