Anthropic flips the script on AI in education: Claude’s Learning Mode makes students do the thinking

AI company Anthropic has launched Claude for Education, an AI assistant designed to improve students’ critical thinking skills.
Claude’s ‘Learning Mode’ feature responds to students’ questions with prompts that encourage them to think through problems and find evidence to support their answers, rather than simply supplying the answers.
The new tool has been adopted by universities including Northeastern, the London School of Economics and Champlain College as part of an experiment to assess whether AI can enhance learning as well as provide efficiencies.
Administrative staff at the universities will also be able to use Claude to analyse trends and collate dense data quicker.
The announcement comes as universities are increasingly under pressure to integrate AI into the curriculum as AI literacy becomes crucial in the workplace.
