Summary
In a special Direct stream today, Nintendo gave more information on the forthcoming Switch 2 console, which is set for global release this year, and announced a brand-new Mario Kart title to launch alongside it.
Titled Mario Kart World, the game introduces a new open-world concept to the franchise, with the world itself being the key new feature.
Players are free to roam the landscape offline between races and enjoy leisure rides, with the world featuring day and night cycles and dynamic weather.
Races will still be a core part of the gameplay, with a maximum of 24 competitors per race, and the game will also feature a new knockout tour mode where players are eliminated according to their ranking.
Nintendo will give more information on Mario Kart World in a follow-up Direct on April 17, and the game will retail for $80, with a bundledversion available with the purchase of a Switch 2 console.
