Summary
Virtual reality (VR) manufacturer HTC has launched its Viverse Creator Program, which will offer funding to those creating 3D web content, including in sectors such as e-commerce, education, gaming and interactive narratives.
HTC said the programme would aid creators by providing funding, promoting their work and making it easier to publish their projects.
The claims come as XR continues to go mainstream, with Meta announcing earlier in February that its Oculus Quest 2 VR headset had exceeded 10 million monthly active users, and VR users spending $1.5bn on the Oculus Store in 2021.
According to Michael Morran, Viverse’s developer community manager, the company is seeking a wide variety of content, with creators free to use the tools they already have, rather than exclusively working with HTC, or handing over IP rights.
