OMA3 expands effort to make standards for the Open Spatial Internet

Summary
Non-profit consortium OMA3 is building the infrastructure for a user-empowered metaverse, or open 3D internet, launching its first project this year.
Called the Spatial Store, it will feature an application registry on the blockchain, instead of a centralised server, allowing developers to “tokenise” their applications and making it possible for users to navigate between platforms.
OMA3 is inviting developers and organisations to take part in its project by joining its consortium.
It has released a Request for Proposals and set up a GitHub site for comments.
OMA3’s cofounder Dirk Lueth said app stores limited what users could see, while CEO Robby Yung, of Animoca Brands, said a decentralised store was vital for the “open internet we’re all building”.
